The Greens will be looking to build on their strong pre-season when they come up against rivals South Melbourne on Friday night at Kingston Heath Soccer Complex.

A 2-0 win over Heidelberg in the Community Shield last Thursday night saw the Greens lift the first silverware for the season and should give them some momentum for the NPL VIC season opener.

However, South and the Greens have met twice in the league last season and Bentleigh only got one point out of the two fixtures.

Greens captain Jack Webster is expecting a tough game: ”Both teams are looking to start well and get a win under their belt. We’ll be coming out flying and so will they – it’s going to be a very competitive game.”

South Melbourne will arrive at Kingston Heath in good form, winning their last pre-season game against West Adelaide (2:0) thanks to a late double from Manny Aguek.

New Greens signing Valentino Yuel has shown his class in the Community Shield where he took out the Player of the Game award. On Friday night he will step on the field for his first NPL game for the Greens.

“I’m buzzing, especially to play on the home ground. It’s so important to get off to a good start. The pitch looks great and I just want to get out there and play.”

Bentleigh will look to kick off their season with three points on Friday night but it certainly won’t be an easy task against rivals South Melbourne.
