After a prolonged run of games away from home, the Bentleigh Greens will be relieved to finally be back at home, as they look to turn their performances into much-needed points against Altona Magic in a crucial NPLVIC clash.
The Greens have shown much-improved form in recent weeks, but the points have not followed, leaving them languishing at the foot of the table with only two wins in 11 games. However, they will be buoyed by their strong performance last week against Port Melbourne, despite losing 2-1 after conceding a last-minute wonder goal.
Meanwhile, Altona Magic are experiencing a tough moment in their season, having conceded 10 goals in their last two games against South Melbourne and Oakleigh Cannons. Prior to that, Magic had won three games straight, but their recent form sees them sit just one point above the Greens in the ladder.
The Magic will also be without their captain Thomas Woerndl, who was sent off in last weekend’s loss against South Melbourne. Altona played mid-week in the Australia Cup, fielding a much-rotated side that went down 2-0 to State League 1 outfit Brimbank Stallions.
With both teams desperate for points, this promises to be an exciting encounter at Kingston Heath Soccer Complex.
The match is being promoted as a double-header with sister club Bayside United, who take on Box Hill United in a crucial VPLW clash straight after the Greens v Magic match.
The Bayside girls sit 7th on the table, with a record of two wins, one draw and three losses. After a fantastic 2-0 triumph over Bulleen Lions last week, Bayside United will be looking to take the game to 10th-placed Box Hill United.
