Chris Lucas has signed a new deal with Bentleigh Greens which will see the forward remain at Kingston Heath in 2016.
The 23-year-old arrived at the Club ahead of the 2015 NPL Victoria campaign, scoring 16 goals to finish as Bentleigh’s leading goalscorer.
Speaking to the Club, Lucas said he was delighted to have re-commit to season 2016.
“I’m very happy to re-sign at Bentleigh,” Lucas said.
“I didn’t know exactly what to expect playing in the Victorian league coming down from Queensland. Playing at Bentleigh for the 2015 season exceeded my expectations. It is a very good club with great coaching staff and playing under Johnny A (Anastasiadis) helped me a lot with my game.”
Lucas kicked off the year playing out wide in Anastasiadis’ front three, before moving to a more central position following a season ending injury to striker Matt Thurtell.
Despite the shift, Lucas assumed the responsibilities to cap off the season as the Club’s leading goalscorer which included the third against South Melbourne in last month’s Grand Final,
“It was unfortunate losing Matty Thurtell through the season as we were dominating with him up front. I felt like I had pretty big shoes to fill up front in the middle but I was happy finishing on 16 goals, including finals,” he said.
“Winning the Grand Final against South Melbourne was fantastic to finish the season on despite not making the last 32 in the FFA Cup. I’m looking forward to season 2016 with the lads and hopefully achieving what we missed out on last season,” Lucas added.
